Southern Indiana’s longest-running haunted house! House of Anguish is the only haunted attraction in the Louisville metro area that changes its theme every year.

LEGEND OF ANGUISH

The land was cursed long ago...
Animals knew to avoid it, but mankind was not so wise. For centuries, it changed hands, and many sought to make a home there. But, each time they did, misfortune was quick to follow. It is from this place he first came to be.

Anguish
He is the architect of misfortune and manipulator of men. From covens to hospitals to carnivals, he pulls strings from the darkness, encouraging others to spiral into depravity and madness.

2024: Eugene LaGriffe’s Macabre Marvels

In the decades following the abrupt closure of the Webb Institute, the building sat decaying. A con man by the name of Eugene LaGriffe bought the property at auction for dirt cheap and planned to open his next “business” within. As the doors creaked open, however, he found the Institute’s experiments within - somehow still alive after years of neglect. Being an enterprising man, LaGriffe decided they would be the centerpiece of his next venture: a freak show. Eugene LaGriffe’s Macabre Marvels opened, but months later, many visitors fled in terror while others were never heard from again. Reports describe giant vermin, dangerous carnival games, and violent, malformed creatures that were barely recognizable as human.

Will you brave the horrors of the greatest show unearthed?

Every ticket purchased supports the restoration of the Culbertson Mansion.

The Culbertson Mansion was built in 1867 by William S. Culbertson, a businessman and philanthropist who was the wealthiest man in Indiana at the time. Much thought and effort went into its construction and decoration, and you can see spectacular details, such as hand-painted ceilings that reflect the tastes and ideals of the late 1800s. When the State of Indiana took ownership of the Mansion, the interior had changed from the passage of time and updates from previous owners.

The Friends of the Culbertson Mansion began the tradition of hosting a haunted house in 1985 and have since raised over $2 million towards the interior restoration. The event was originally named "Literally, a Haunted House" in reference to stories of strange activity in the Carriage House where the haunt takes place.

Over the years, the Mansion staff and volunteers have reported unusual occurrences in the Carriage House: electrical problems, missing items, strange sounds after hours, and mysterious figures moving from room to room. It's not unusual for the motion-activated security alarm system to get set off by something moving around late at night. A few staff members and past volunteers have even refused to work in the building because of personal experiences with the unexplained.

House of Anguish at The Culbertson Mansion is a Halloween haunted house attraction offering scary fun and frights in New Albany, Indiana. It is located just across the river from Louisville, KY, near Clarksville, IN.
